The School of Dentistry’s (SOD) mission is to promote health locally, regionally and globally through preeminence in education, clinical care, research, and service. The UNC School of Dentistry is proud to have a department representing each of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. In addition, the school has 13 supporting administrative units. The SOD provides the highest quality education and training to students, managing clinical education for 320 pre-doctoral DDS dental students, 60 auxiliary oral health sciences students, and approximately 45 graduate students matriculating through one of 10 dental residency/post-graduate specialty programs. Through offering three different clinical environments for patients, the school is able to meet the needs and positively impact the oral health of those who live in North Carolina, the nation and the world. Position Description

The Director of Clinical Compliance oversees the UNC Adams School of Dentistry’s (ASOD) Clinical Compliance Program, as an independent and objective body that reviews and evaluates clinical compliance issues/concerns within the organization, including the pre-clinical laboratories, student clinics, advanced education clinics, clinical research, and dental faculty practice and associated wet laboratories. This position is expected to work with campus regulatory agencies, such as Environmental Health and Safety, on concerns/issues with bloodborne pathogen standards and OSHA’s Hazardous Waste standards. The position has the authority to create policy, develop appropriate training modules, and enforce policy. Additionally, this position has the authority to remove clinic privileges and to recommend non-renewals of contracts or expulsion from clinical programs due to noncompliant behavior. The Clinical Compliance Program includes, but is not limited to:
•Infection Control compliance
•OSHA’s Bloodborne pathogen standard compliance (coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety)

•OSHA’s Hazardous Waste standards compliance (coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety)

•Infectious waste disposal compliance

•Medical Emergency training compliance

•Medical surveillance

•Basic Life Support training compliance (CPR)

•Immunization review and compliance

•Clinical procedure coding compliance

•Credentialing (degrees, certifications, licensure)

•Work Site wellness
The position ensures that leadership, staff, faculty, residents and students gain a thorough understanding of clinical regulations and relevant School and University policies and procedures. This position cultivates and maintains a strong culture of compliance with these rules, and monitors that behavior in the organization meets the University and School’s standards of conduct, and the profession’s standards of care including compliance with State Dental Practice Act

The Director of Clinical Compliance is responsible for instituting related systems assessment, policy development, training, surveillance, enforcement and sanctions. These include all employees, adjunct faculty, students and volunteers. This position will also be accountable for orienting new students and employees to the clinical policies and procedures of the ASOD, verifying their immunizations, and validating employment credentials where necessary.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

•Certification in compliance from a recognized national organization or a willingness to pursue a compliance certification
•Sound knowledge of compliance and industry standards and culture
•Good working knowledge of all relevant health care regulations (and those of other relevant regulators)
covering a range of regulatory disciplines
•Ability to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint to a high standard
•Cursory knowledge of dentistry and dental procedures

Preferred Qualifications

•Minimum of 2 years of health care compliance experience.
