  • Position Description:

    Serve as a postdoctoral researcher on USDA/ARS funded projects to study innate immune responses, particularly the interferon system and stress responses, to protect against viral and non-viral diseases. The successful candidate is expected to study host response to viral infection in fish and human models. The position requires proficient skills and publication record in biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology and microbiology. We are looking for a confident and highly self-motivated colleague who appreciates independent thinking. There are opportunities to develop other skill sets including teaching and grant writing.


      Ph.D. degree in biological/medical sciences (e.g., microbiology, molecular biology, biology, biochemistry, immunology) required. Candidate should have at least one first author publication.Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to perform multiple research activities (multi-task) on a daily basis. Depending on experiments weekend and/or night laboratory work may be necessary.Experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, RT-PCR, recombinant protein expression and purification, Protein interaction assays, gene reporter assays, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and experience growing bacteria. Minimum five years laboratory research experience with both human and fish models of viral infections  is required.  Experience with both is strongly preferred.Basic electronic word processing, database management, and data analysis skills are required.Must be able to speak and write technical data in English and have the ability to work independently.

    Working Conditions:Applicant may work in a research lab specializing in virology and molecular biology. General and special lab safety training and handling of viruses is required. Flexible work schedule. Applicant may work with hazardous or infectious materials or waste and chemicals.
