The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) in the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University and Augusta University Health are seeking a Family Medicine Scholar to support the development of its collaborative research efforts with the Institute of Public and Preventive Health, the Department of Population Health Sciences, Georgia Prevention Institute, the Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine, and leading the MCG practice-based research network (HamesNet). With nearly 15,000 highly diverse patients, the Family Medicine Center provides a rich environment for clinical research. Candidates can also qualify for the Curtis G. Hames, MD, Distinguished Chair endowed by the MCG Foundation. There is a separate Curtis G. Hames, MD research endowment from the MCG Foundation which provides support for preliminary/pilot research projects and activities.
The DFM has an ACGME accredited Allopathic Family Medicine Residency Program, an ACGME accredited 1+2 rural track residency program, and a concurrent AOA accredited Osteopathic Family Medicine residency component. The residency program is also supported by teaching affiliations with the local not-for-profit University Health Care System along with other regional partners.
Clinical teaching and services occur concurrently in the Family Medicine Center (FMC) and at Augusta University Medical Center within the AU Health System as well as other affiliated local and regional clinical sites. The FMC is recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. Patient-and Family-Centered Care concepts are the guiding principles for new clinical program development in the university’s academic health center as exemplified by its Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
Qualified candidates will have completed a PHD program and may have also completed an ACGME or AOA accredited Family Medicine Residency Program, MPH, EDD, or other health related degrees. Candidates should have extensive experience teaching research skills as well as leading research within a practice-based research network.
Salary will be commensurate with the education and qualifications of the selected candidate.
