AVP for Online Learning & Academic Programs

 

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) has launched a search for an Assistant or Associate Vice Provost for Online Learning and Academic Programs. The AVP will provide leadership and oversight to Online Learning and Academic Programs, a division of Academic Affairs. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, the AVP provides leadership and support for the university’s efforts in online and distance education, including fully online programs and online courses intended for both distance learning and residential students. 

 

UTK online academic programs include 14 Master's degrees, five doctoral or Educational Specialist programs, ten graduate certificates, and two Bachelor's degrees; a third online Bachelor's degree is currently under development and will be offered in Fall 2021.  More information about UTK's online degree programs can be found at https://volsonline.utk.edu/.

 

Accountabilities

Development and Establishment of University Wide Online Academic Programs

• Provides leadership, direction, oversight and vision to the development of online programs.

• Establishes priorities for the launching of online programs and courses intended for both distance and residential students. 

• Collaborates with colleges and departments to initiate, develop and deliver online programs and courses.

• Manages relationships and collaborates with internal staff and external vendors to expedite initiation of online programs.

• Partners with Student Success and the Graduate School to support students in online academic programs.

• Collaborates with the Office of Information Technology to attain efficiencies in the sourcing, delivery, maintenance, and improvement of online teaching and learning technologies.

 

Outreach and Growth of Online Academic Programs

• Promotes growth of online programs by working with campus stakeholders to market and assess online programs.

• Establishes and monitor enrollment goals to identify successes and opportunities for improvements. 

• Collaborates with Enrollment Management and the Graduate School to increase the number of enrollments in online degree programs.

 

Online Learning Services and Support

• Directs and develops university-level programs to support faculty in the design and implementation of online courses.

• Directs and develops university-level training in online teaching for instructional faculty.

• Provides direction and oversight to support maintenance, assessment, and continuous improvement for online programs and courses

 

Compliance

• Identifies compliance requirements for online academic programs and ensures that these requirements are met.

 

Staff Management

• Directs, develops and manages staff members in the division of Online Learning and Academic Programs.

Required Education

• Master’s degree in related field

 

Required Experience

• Five years of related experience working in online higher education at an accredited institution

• Demonstrated leadership and collaboration experience in a higher education setting

• Proven dedication to principles of equity and inclusion

 

Preferred Experience

• Management-level experience in an office of online education at an accredited post-secondary institution

• Experience developing and implementing an institution-wide online education strategy at an accredited post-secondary institution

• Experience teaching credit-bearing online courses at an accredited post-secondary institution

• Experience supporting continuous improvement of online academic programs at an accredited post-secondary institution

• Terminal degree

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Evidence of ability to move a project from ideation to completion on schedule

• Demonstrated ability to develop, oversee, and assess initiatives to expand and enhance online education at an accredited post-secondary institution

• Knowledge of platforms and technologies supporting online teaching and learning at the post-secondary level

• Comprehensive written and oral communication skills
