The primary purpose of the Vehicle & Equipment Repair Technician is to provide maintenance and repair support to University owned equipment (cars, light-heavy duty trucks and vans, commercial mowers, weed eaters, leaf blowers, trimmers, edgers, chainsaws, winches, sprayers, pressure washers, vacuum shredders, and trailers). Primary duties of the Vehicle & Equipment Repair Technician include, but are not limited to:

Responsible for checking/changing oil, grease lube fittings, checking/repairing/replacing tires, changing fluids and filters, repair of lights and wiring, steering/suspension diagnostic and repairs, brakes/ABS, drivability, check engine light diagnosis, and noise/vibration issues. Also, the diagnostics and repairs on various types of small equipment. These tasks include changing fluids and filters, replacing belts, blades, tires, electrical repairs, clutches, wheel bearings, etc.

Other Work/ResponsibilitiesMinimum Experience/Education

Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters. Basic computer skills required for email communication, leave and basic job functions.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally with or without reasonable accommodations. A valid North Carolina Driver’s license. License must be maintained as a condition of employment. Experience in the automotive, diesel, small equipment field.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Preferred a minimum of 2 years small equipment (gas & diesel) and automotive (gas & diesel) experience. Diagnostic skills and/or the ability to interpret the customer’s issue and make effective repair recommendations.
Current NC inspection license
