The College of Veterinary Medicine,
North Carolina State University, announces the availability of a residency position in
Veterinary Anatomic Pathology/Poultry Medicine. Application review will begin Oct 15, 2020. The starting date is Jul 14, 2021. Applications are sought for a Combined Poultry Medicine and Anatomic Residency Pathology Program (4 years) position. The poultry pathology program will emphasize competence in veterinary anatomic pathology and poultry medicine and will prepare candidates for dual board certification in pathology and poultry medicine. This program focuses on training specialists in poultry pathology to be leaders in the field. The Anatomic Pathology program emphasizes competence in veterinary anatomic pathology, with development of career focus that matches the applicant’s interests, and prepares the candidate for certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Applicants interested in diverse pathology career opportunities are encouraged to apply. Multidisciplinary graduate programs are available, for those interested in graduate training, and emphasis includes toxicology, carcinogenesis, immunology, and infectious disease. Pathology strengths include laboratory animal, poultry, liver, skin, neuro, fish, zoo, onco, immune, and infectious disease pathology. Development of a teaching portfolio is available to interested residents.

Major job duties include performing necropsies and examining surgical pathology specimens, under the supervision of a senior pathologist.

Other Work/ResponsibilitiesMinimum Experience/Education

Requires DVM or equivalent doctorate (e.g., VMD, BVSc) by an American Veterinary Medical Associate (AVMA) Council on Education accredited program, or by a “Recognized School of Veterinary Medicine” as defined by the AVMA.

Previous experience in pathology is desirable, but not mandatory.

Required License or Certification

Eligible for North Carolina Veterinary Licensure and/or Faculty Certificate under the supervision of the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Health Complex
