About the Department:

The mission of the Department of Population Health and Pathobiology is to recruit, train, inspire, and graduate Doctors of Veterinary Medicine of exemplary knowledge, skill, and character. In order to maintain the intellectual and professional climate necessary to accomplish this mission, the department’s faculty will advance veterinary medical science through innovative basic and applied research, inspired mentoring of students (undergraduate, professional, residents, and graduate), excellence in clinical and diagnostic services, and innovative extension and engagement activities

Essential Job Duties:

The research focus will be antimicrobial resistance epidemiology and modeling. The applicant will focus on the following research activities:

  • Develop graphical models to integrate multiple data streams (phenotypic, genotypic resistances and metadata) to support analysis and visualization of complex resistant patterns and joint distribution of resistances
  • Apply the methods to data collected in national-level surveillance systems and research datasets
  • Develop machine learning models to extract and analyze data on antimicrobial use and resistance from electronic health records

The Research Associate will be expected to carry out independent work, as well as support the research of other members of the lab, make presentations regarding his/her research, to publish their research results in peer-reviewed journals, to participate in grant proposal preparation as needed, and to interact with faculty, researchers, and graduate students at the College and University Level, and with external collaborators.

Other Responsibilities:

Being part of our lab community and attend lab meetings and assist and input as needed.

Minimum Experience and Education:

The Research Associate shall have a minimum of a masters degree in epidemiology or related field (ecology and evolutionary biology, statistics and related fields) and post baccalaureate research experience.

Other Required Qualifications:

A deep interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, strong quantitative skills and good oral and writing skills are expected. Strong interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills; strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications:

A degree in Veterinary Medicine or PhD is desirable. Three or more years of post degree experience are desired. Additionally, in-depth experience with R software and package development is desirable.
