Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or closely related field and two years relevant business experience. Public Accounting or banking experience preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Nature & Purpose of Position
Provide professional business and management advising in the areas of general business, financing, marketing, and accounting to existing or start-up small businesses in eight county areas of East Texas. Plan, coordinate, and market all training seminars, workshops, and special training projects for the Small Business Development Center.

Primary Responsibilities
This position is responsible for providing professional business advising services to pre-venture, early stage and growth companies in areas such as financial modeling, financial analysis and budgeting, capital formation, marketing, marketing research, business plan development, strategic planning, human resources, and other business related issues. Meet annual goals, including new business starts, capital formation, new jobs, and total clients, after an initial training period. Business development, interacting with chambers, banks, and other professional organizations. Individual must have strong interpersonal skills as well as problem solving, decision-making, project management, and time management skills. The successful candidate must have a clear understanding of business models to help clients in various stages of their business. Assist clients in the preparation of spreadsheets, bank loan packets, and business plans. Prepare detailed reports on each counseling session and enter into appropriate software program. Conduct extensive follow-up meetings/calls with clients. Work closely with the Director of the Small Business Development Center to plan trainings and special events. Manage logistics for all events. Develop, implement, and evaluate results of marketing plan for training events. Present trainings, coordinate training presenters, and manage training presentations. Input training into database system. Produce and publish all calendars, fliers, brochures and other mail pieces to promote events. Prepare and submit written training reports in accordance with established guidelines. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications
Occasional travel in and out of town to client business locations to provide on-site advising and assistance is required. Evening training sessions and/or seminars are required. Extensive knowledge of business and bookkeeping/accounting software packages, Microsoft Word/Excel, and QuickBooks is needed. Spanish speaking would be helpful. The SBDC program is hosted by SHSU College of Business Administration and is funded through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the State of Texas. The continuation of all SBDC positions are contingent on the continuation of funding from both the SBA and the State of Texas at current levels.
