Temporary Dental Hygienist

The School of Dental Medicine on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has openings for part-time/full-time temporary Hygienist position in support of the School’s response to COVID-19 and its clinical operations. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing hygiene treatment to patients

Specific Duties

Patient Management
    Review daily schedule with the administrative assistant for hygiene patientsWork with administrative assistant to schedule hygiene patients with efficiency
  1. Review patient health and dental history forms and update as necessary
  2. Accurately chart each patient’s periodontal health
  3. Perform thorough and gentle prophylaxis to patients
  4. Perform scaling, root planing and selective polishing for patients as appropriate
  5. Administer local anesthetics, if allowed by dental practice act
  6. Place medicaments subgingivally for periodontal disease treatment
  7. Take radiographs of patients as prescribed by dentist
  8. Apply cavity-preventive or desensitization agents, such as fluorides and Gluma
  9. Communicate with patients in an understandable and professional way
  10. Check on patient comfort during treatment and help allay patient anxiety
  11. Accurately and appropriately record provided treatment
  12. Teach proper oral hygiene techniques to patients
  13. Counsel patients on oral health, including the role of nutrition
  14. Perform other tasks assigned by the dentist
Treatment Room Management and Sterilization

    Check treatment room for cleanliness and make necessary changesCheck and turn on treatment room equipment
  1. Gather and review patient charts for the day
  2. Clean treatment room at the end of the day and turn off equipment
  3. Maintain a supply inventory for hygiene treatment
  4. Review, select and submit orders for patient education materials for the practice
  5. Submit supply orders to person who is responsible for DFP ordering as necessary
  6. Properly discard all disposable items from each visit
  7. Assemble soiled instruments and place in sterilization area
  8. Clean treatment room surfaces with disinfectant solution
Records Management

    Securely store and handle patient records in compliance with office policies and procedures and applicable legal requirements, such as HIPAA regulationsAccurately record medical and dental histories
  1. Accurately file patient information
  2. Assist in the administration of the recall system
Office Participation

    Be an active participant in team meetingsPromote team concept by interacting with others in the office

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

Must be a graduate of an accredited US Dental Hygiene Program and must be licensed in the State of Colorado as a registered dental hygienist, have excellent communication skills and be comfortable completing electronic records.
