Professional Research Assistant

Overall Description of Responsibility or Nature of Work

The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery has an opening for a full time Professional Research Assistant to work at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. The Professional Research Assistant position will work under the supervision of Dr. Liechty, Dr. Junwang, and Dr. Carlos Zgheib. The research focus of the laboratory is to develop novel therapies to promote tissue repair and regeneration.

Specific Position Duties with Percentages of Time 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

[80%] Research:

• Participate in the initiation and/or completion of research projects
• Carry out research projects and Develop research protocols
• Perform experiments as related to research project
• Trouble-shooting and problem-solving as related to the research project
• Record results of experiments: Tabulate research data and keep a detailed, easy to understand laboratory notebook
• Interpret the experimental results
• Conduct literature searches
• Perform in-vitro and in-vivo experiments
• Assist with animal surgeries and tissue collection
• Carry out cell culture and molecular biology techniques
• Prepare tissues, cell cultures, blood samples, etc. for testing
• Perform animal care related to research procedures
• Test, verify and analyze research data

 [20%] Laboratory Administration

• Maintain laboratory records and inventories
• Participate in weekly laboratory meetings.  This will include presenting analyzed data and discussing future downstream experiments
• Be willing to learn relevant techniques from the PI and other lab personnel
• Wiling to perform all research compliance activities required by the University of Colorado
• Perform other administrative duties as requested by PI

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with some prior laboratory setting experience

Applicants mustmeet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Desired Qualifications

• Excellent skills in oral and written English
• Must be able to work independently and with groups
• Understanding of scientific theory and hypothesis-driven research
• Previous laboratory experience and knowledge
• Ability and experience working with animal models such as mice and rats.
