A full-time PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT position is available with the Interdisciplinary Joint Biology Program, Dr. Larry Moreland, PI, in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Moreland’s research focuses on various forms of inflammatory arthritis, primarily rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The goal of this program is the learn more about the heterogeneity of inflammatory diseases to better understand resistance to therapy and identify unique cell signatures across the inflammatory disease spectrum.
The successful candidate for this position will work with the program manager and Dr. Moreland to identify, recruit and schedule subjects from both the Rheumatology and Orthopedic clinics. This person will perform clinical research study visits, including obtaining informed consent, collecting data and study samples, and performing data entry. They will assist with processing study samples, including blood and tissue samples. This position may also perform advanced blood processing to include peripheral blood mononuclear cells, tissue disaggregation and DNA/RNA extraction. The position also includes sample management (e.g. labelling, storage, shipping, receiving), quality control activities, and inventory and supply ordering for the lab and the associated studies. This position will have an active role in re-organization of samples and freezers as well as help with a variety of sample and shipping projects on a regular basis. Must be willing to travel to collaborating University of Colorado clinics throughout the Denver Metro region.Job Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of this position will include, but will not be restricted to:
- Collaborate with the program manager and the PI to help facilitate study visits across the Rheumatology and Orthopedic clinics
- Recruit, screen and enroll subjects who qualify for the Interdisciplinary Joint Biology Program studies.
- Perform all duties required for clinical study visits, including obtaining informed consent, collecting questionnaire data and study samples, and data entry. Phlebotomy skills are preferred.
- Interact well with study participants, via phone, email and in-person
- Perform sample processing of blood and tissue
- Sample and freezer tracking and management

Required education/experience/skills (minimum qualifications):
Bachelor’s degree, strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills. A minimum of 6 months experience in clinical research and blood processing.
Applicants mustmeet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Desired qualifications: Experience working in a medical or research laboratory or with patients in a health care setting. Experience with web-based tracking systems, Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access), and/or a barcoded tracking system is ideal. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, willing and able to acquire new skills as needed. Phlebotomy skills are preferred.
