The College of Science at the University of North Texas consists of the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and the interdisciplinary programs Teach North Texas, BioDiscovery Institute, Advanced Environmental Research Institute, and Interdisciplinary Program in Applied and Computational Science. The college offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in science and mathematics, currently serving more than 4,000 majors. Our faculty are world-class researchers in science and mathematics, and the college faculty and staff work together to provide excellent support to our students in their academic education and professional development. The Office of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies of the College of Science at the University Of North Texas is seeking to hire a Senior Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs. This position supervises advisors and counselors of the College of Science and provides strategic planning and operational oversight for advising functions including management of all documentation related to student advising. This professional works with a variety of stakeholders to achieve department and university goals and to ensure effective and efficient operations and implementation of policy and practice.Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in related field and six years of closely related professional experienceKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Extensive knowledge of issues and activities related to assigned program areas.
• Knowledge and skills to professionally and effectively counsel and mentor students.
• Strong ability to establish successful working relationships and to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability in organizational planning, budgeting, and supervisory and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of University and external rules and policies related to the assigned program areas and Student Development in general.
• Knowledge of safety and security precautions related to work performed and work supervised.
- Supervisory experience of academic advisors, counselors, office staff, and/or student workers.

Directs the College of Science Advising Center and ensures effective and efficient procedures for both students and advisors to ensure competent advising practices, theories, and strategies are being utilized to serve students.o
Evaluates all office personnel, including annual performance reviews of all personnel directly supervised.o
Assists with hiring process for office personnel.o
Conducts trainings for office personnel.o
Develops and conducts periodic meetings for office staff and for departmental faculty advisors.o
Attends, represents, and actively participates in on- and off-campus committees and conferences as needed.o
Demonstrates effective team leadership, promotes good will within the office, and works in a professional, cooperative manner.o
Coordinates communication with other UNT office regarding advising issues, including student referrals as needed.o
Develops, implements, and assesses strategic plans for student retention and enhances partnerships with departments to achieve these goals.o
Clarifies UNT policies for students and makes reasonable and equitable decisions regarding a variety of student issues and problems, including ODA, degree requirements, graduation applications, academic policy, change of grade requests, and back-dated drops.o
