The Coordinator of Recreation and Wellness works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in coordinating and implementing, a balanced student recreation and activities program which addresses the needs of the College community and enhances the quality of living and learning for students. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, the Coordinator of Recreation and Wellness is responsible for all recreation and wellness programming. In addition, the position will be responsible for coordinating the daily operations of all outdoor/indoor recreation and fitness facilities, ensuring that the operation functions to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff. The position requires the ability to work various times including early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends, and the individual must be especially sensitive to issues involving the safety and security of all participants in offered programs. The Coordinator serves on various college committees, attends related University System of Georgia meetings, and frequently works evenings and weekends.

Essential Duties

Program Coordination
•Ensures that the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of programs are conducted in accordance with established service and safety standards.
•Coordinates the Fitness Center, functional fitness center (BRIG), informal recreation program facilities, outdoor adventure programs, and low ropes course.
•Coordinates wellness programming in collaboration with the Health Center and the Office of Counseling and Disability Services.
•Coordinate physical facilities arrangements.
•Report, track, and follow up on facilities issues. Works with AVP to develop and implement a plan for facilities improvements to enhance the student experience.
•Oversee, review, and works with AVP to expand the College’s intramural and club sports program.
•Assists club sports with their student activity fee budgets, budget use, and accurately completing budget paperwork for the College.
•Assists faculty and staff sponsors of club sports in the development of organizational charters, by-laws, and constitutions and the implementation of activities, programs, and events.
•Assist in creating and implementing a marketing strategy to promote and increase use of the recreation and wellness facilities.
•Coordination registration and manage documentation, including forms, waivers, reports, registrations, and equipment checkout.
•Frequently work evening and weekend hours as a function of the position.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
•Works with AVP to ensure that wellness budget is managed effectively.
•Makes recommendations for hire, train, and supervise student staff and fitness class instructors for the recreation and wellness department.
•Ensures that staff are provided regular safety training.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
•Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, faculty and community members
•Strong interpersonal communications and organization skills.
•Ability to effectively supervise students and contracted service providers.
•Must be highly organized, motivated and energetic.
•Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, make reasoned decisions and work collaboratively with others toward common goals.
•A commitment to providing services in accordance with the stated mission, goals, objectives, and priorities of the College.
•Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a MVR check.

Preferred Qualifications and Training

•A Master’s degree in exercise science, college student personnel, higher education leadership, counseling, or closely related field
•One to three years of experience working in recreation and wellness programs, or closely related field.
•Demonstrated success in planning large and small scale events for a diverse campus population.
•Understanding of recreation and wellness programming, including risk management issues and applicable state and national standards.
•Ability to assess the programming and activity needs of the student body and develop a suitable variety of student programs and activities.
