In conjunction with members of the Learning, Research & Technology department, this position will: Create engaging multimedia content in support of educational and institutional goals; Design and deliver digital media literacy programming; Provide direction and collaboration on the development of innovative and effective approaches to Smith College educational media production—maintaining knowledge of industry trends, best practices and actionable insights to continually improve services; Explore new and emerging technologies, and provide opportunities for the Smith community to test, tinker and learn. Participate in service team, department and organizational planning and support efforts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Media Development: Consult with members of the Smith College community to develop digital content strategies, workflows/methodologies, initiate and track video assignments, and coordinate resources for the production of curricular, co-curricular and institutional media projects; Work with users to optimize their audio and video content Identify and disseminate digital content best practices to the Smith College community; Evaluate and introduce emerging new media technologies to the Smith College community.
Instruction/Presentation: Collaborate with faculty to provide course instruction and support for student media projects, preparing technical resources as needed; Design and deliver digital media literacy programming; Conduct hands-on workshops multimedia technologies for the Smith community; Consult with members of the Smith community on the use of multimedia technologies, pedagogical implementation, and accessibility considerations.
Media/Studio Production: Support the use of media production spaces and related technologies, as assigned. Develop compelling and effective multimedia productions focused on teaching, learning and scholarship for Smith College; Publish multimedia content across online platforms, and advise on appropriate lifecycle management (capture of media/ cataloging/ use/ obsolesce).
Participate in cross-team projects, service teams, and other departmental and organizational planning and support efforts, and perform other duties as required. Maintain professional skills by attending conferences, workshops, and trade shows.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in educational or media related field, or equivalent experience, plus three to five years in video production, including videography, script writing, and audio and video editing both on location and in the studio.Experience with interactive digital tools preferred.
Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Commitment to working in a team, and comfort with change in a dynamic environment. Strong knowledge of media authoring and development tools. Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) Skilled knowledge of camera, lighting, sound and animation. Demonstrated initiative and creativity. Demonstrated interviewing experience. Knowledge of and experience with the various video and audio formats, technologies, and delivery requirements; video capture and encoding; graphic design and motion graphic skills; knowledge of hardware and software required for video and audio conversion and compression. Detail-oriented, strong prioritization skills – ability to manage multiple projects and complex schedules simultaneously.
