Description:

In anticipation of increases in enrollment for the 2021-2022 academic year, GGC invites applicants for a 10-month, full-time faculty position in Teacher Education (with expertise/certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/English Language Learners (ELL)) in the School of Education (SOE) starting on August 1, 2021. GGC seeks applications for an instructor faculty position to begin August 1, 2021. Currently, both the Reading and ESOL Endorsement Programs are in embedded in SOE’s three academic degree programs (i.e., Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education and Special Education). The person hired for this position will have the opportunity to eventually apply for promotion to the rank of assistant professor per the policies and guidelines mandated by the GGC Promotion and Credentialing Committee. Therefore, it is preferred that the individual is ABD or have a terminal degree.

We are seeking qualified individuals who will guide students in: fostering environments that reflect ethical behavior, respect, kindness, safety and care; creating culturally inclusive learning environments that capitalize on the developmental characteristics and life experiences of learners; developing knowledge and skills in order to provide all learners with engaging curriculum and learning experiences based on local and state standards; utilizing a variety of content appropriate instructional strategies, which include communicating effective and descriptive feedback to maximize learning for all students; and seamlessly integrating technology into the design, delivery and assessment of learning environments and experiences.

The individual must have professional and/or educational experience with teaching in the K-8th grade band with expertise/certification in Reading/Literacy and/or ESOL/ELL (i.e., knowledge of discipline-specific skills, strategies, theories, best practices, etc. that focuses on grades K thru 8 is preferred), as well as a strong commitment in social justice and experience with teaching diverse student populations. This individual will assume a range of responsibilities including: (1) developing and teaching undergraduate courses; (2) conducting meaningful research and scholarship activities; (3) participating in broad-based college and departmental committee work and professional service; (4) mentoring undergraduate students/teacher candidates; and (5) supervising teacher candidates in field and clinical experiences in various school settings. This position involves the teaching of college-level curriculum and methods courses. This position also reviews, measures and evaluates students’ development, growth and progression in achieving institutional, school and program goals. Each of these goals align with the educational outcomes of the School of Education at Georgia Gwinnett College.

SalaryCommensurate with education and experience. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:Minimum Successful candidates must have:
  • Ed.D. or Ph.D. degree with ESOL/ELL and/or Reading Specialist certification preferred; Master’s degree with ESOL/ELL and/or Reading Specialist certification will be considered
  • Must demonstrate a strong background in curricular planning and assessment, as well as the use of educational technology to enhance student learning
  • Familiarity with teacher education accreditation standards and prior experience with supervising field and clinical experiences is preferred
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of public elementary and/or middle school teaching experience
  • Must have ESOL/ELL and/or Reading Specialist certification
Preferred
  • ESOL/ELL Specialist certification preferred
Position Disclosure:Physical RequirementsPosition requires local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus.
