The Institute of Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering (https://ibbme.utoronto.ca) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time continuing teaching stream appointment in the area of Molecular Engineering. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an expected start date of September 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.


The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching in molecular engineering and science. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen the Institute’s existing strengths. Applications from candidates with teaching expertise in molecular engineering, assembly, diagnostic systems, point-of-care devices, biosensor technologies for clinical diagnosis and health monitoring, pharmaceutical formulations are especially welcome but expertise in all other disciplines with relevance to molecular and biomedical engineering will be considered. A candidate with experience in entrepreneurship, industry and start-ups will be a plus. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering or another relevant field by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter.

Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry, and have undergraduate and/or graduate teaching experience that includes lecture preparation and delivery, assessment, and broader curriculum development. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to improving their pedagogical practices, and an interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.


Evidence for excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong and reflective teaching statement, sample syllabi, course materials, teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
