Requirements

Facilities Engineer 1 (non-exempt) - Georgetown University Law Center

The Facilities Engineer maintains a safe, comfortable campus environment by operating, controlling and performing preventive/predictive maintenance on the HVACR, Electrical, Mechanical, and Life Safety building systems 24/7. The Facilities Engineer should be proficient in the operation of automated building management systems, controls, pumps, heat exchangers, water treatment, cooling towers, boilers, fire alarm, sprinkler, emergency generator, elevator, and various other mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems and equipment associated with the operation of large buildings. Assist with over all regulatory and code compliance of all building systems as required by Law and local jurisdictions. Duties include:

General Maintenance
  • Ability to work with others on a team to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, maintain detailed and accurate records, and prepare clear and concise written reports.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles and techniques to the solution of equipment, buildings and infrastructure.
  • Vendor management experience.
  • Familiarity with regulations and building codes.
  • Operate and monitor building MEP & HVAC systems
  • Maintain comfortable IAQ
  • Supports the academic atmosphere conducive of learning
  • Test and maintains water chemistry for HVAC systems


Repair and Maintenance
  • Escort and assist contractors making necessary repairs and adjustments
  • Repair and adjust HVAC equipment
  • Performs predictive and preventive maintenance
  • Winterize MEP systems
  • Change air handler filters as needed an directed by management
  • Analyzes and communicates effective plan for maintenance and operation of building systems


Inspection
  • Inspect and document energy consumption
  • Inspect and trouble shoot failed building systems
  • Log and record equipment required by code, insurance or as directed by management
  • Documents monthly readings (UST and AST) including consumption
  • Completes TMA service requests
  • Inspects and troubleshoots failed systems
Other
  • Responds to emergency situations such as flood, smoke, fire, inclement weather, etc.


This position reports directly to the Chief Engineer. The position may report to another manager or staff member as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Director of Facilities Management. Primary purpose to provide building support services that ensure a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the University community. Employees are expected to behave in a professional manner, comply with policies and practices, be flexible with respect to scheduling and work as part of a team. The position is designated, “Emergency Employee” by the University's definition, which requires that incumbent report to work during inclement weather at the regularly scheduled time regardless of whether the University is closed, opening late or closing early. Must be able to be flexible to accommodate emergency situations including but not limited to snow removal.

Qualifications
  • Must have a DC 3rd Class Steam Engineers and EPA Universal CFC License.
  • Valid driver's license from Maryland, District of Columbia, or Virginia and must conform to University Driving Policy.
  • High School Diploma
  • 4 to 5 Years work experience.
  • Building Automation Control operation experience.
  • Ability to read blue prints.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
