The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Denver) is seeking a full-time tenure-track/tenured Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of environmental planning. The intended start date for this position is Fall 2021 with the potential for a Spring 2021 start if requested. 

We seek a colleague who shares our deep commitment to advancing equity and justice and enhancing quality of life through research, teaching, and service that support positive policy, planning, and design change in underserved communities. About the Department of Urban and Regional Planning 
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning currently operates the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP). Established in 1971 and fully accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board since 1986, the MURP program admits an annual class of around 50 and offers a unique, self-directed curriculum emphasizing hands‐on experiential learning, public engagement, and applied research. Located in the vibrant heart of downtown Denver and just minutes from the Rocky Mountains, the MURP program provides an ideal setting to learn from the region’s successes and challenges. The program is led by a core team of full-time professors who, along with numerous adjunct faculty composed of some of the nation’s top professionals, deliver a curriculum that features community-engaged class projects, studios, capstones, and thesis projects.

We leverage our faculty’s extensive expertise and our state-of-the-art facilities to provide students with intensive instruction in tools for visualization, mapping, graphics, and modeling, and offer a popular certificate in geospatial technologies. Well‐established dual degree offerings combine the MURP with the Juris Doctor (JD; CU Boulder), Master of Applied Geography/Geospatial Sciences (MA-AGGS), Master of Architecture (MArch), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Master of Public Affairs (MPA), Master of Public Health (MPH; Anschutz Medical Campus), and the Master of Science in Historic Preservation (MSHP). The MURP program maintains a very active Alumni Association (MURPAA) with alumni across the globe. 

College of Architecture and Planning
The mission of CAP is to ignite evolution that enriches places for people and the planet. In addition to the MURP, CAP offers a BS in Architecture and professional Master’s degrees in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, and Urban Design, and a PhD in Geography, Planning, and Design. Led by Dean Nan Ellin, who is also a member of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, CAP maintains several partnerships with universities in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, and houses multiple research centers and initiatives including the campus-wide CityCenter, a new approach to community-university partnerships which matches faculty experts and university resources with civic and community leaders to catalyze positive change and develop innovative solutions to the toughest challenges facing the Denver metro area.

Job Responsibilities
CU Denver’s College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) faculty members engage in teaching, research, and service. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester. Faculty members may teach core courses in the Master of Urban and Regional Planning (MURP) program and elective courses in their specialty area as well as courses in other CAP departments and programs, if appropriate. We also expect this faculty member to participate actively in CAP’s PhD in Geography, Planning, and Design and relevant research centers. Faculty hired at a more senior level may have leadership opportunities within the department, college, or a research center.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $78,000 to $85,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD in urban and regional planning, public policy, environmental sciences, or relevant field, or a JD with research experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Successful candidates should demonstrate potential for, or evidence of, excellence in teaching and scholarship, including publication and external funding, and the commitment to develop innovative, cross-disciplinary research initiatives.
