Loyola Genomics Core Facility (LGF)
The lab work at the LGF will require the development of advanced benchwork skills through discipline, focus, and composure. It requires work with very small volumes of liquids of varying viscosity, highly sensitive machines sometimes working at their detection limits, and many genetically engineered enzymes that must be stored and used correctly in order to prevent the loss of efficacy.
The LGF provides services to scientists both at Loyola and external institutions, which positions the lab at the intersection of research and industry. A portion of the work involves validated protocols where reproducibility is a must. Other projects involve validation of protocols at the cutting edge of genomics. These experiments will be carried out as instructed by the Genomics Specialist.

Support research projects by performing laboratory experiments.
Work with state of the art equipment in order to prepare RNA and DNA samples for NextGen sequencing.
Assist the Genomics Specialist with various lab procedures and projects.
Develop and organize research findings with orderly records. The development of laboratory reports requires strong writing and communication skills.
Analyze primary biological literature pertaining to the laboratory research projects. The analyses require familiarity with basic methods in next generation sequencing, cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology and molecular genetics, clinical research, and the ability to organize productive searches of scientific databases.
Maintain a safe, organized, and clean working environment that ensures compliance with all safety regulations.
