The employee/student will assist the research office staff with preparation of research projects and reports, manuscripts, and presentations; copying documents; preparing tables, graphs, fact sheets, and written reports. The student will assist faculty members with descriptive, exploratory or experimental research; publication activities, data collection, data management and/or data analysis. The student will work under the direct supervision of the research administrative assistant.Scope of Responsibilities
In addition to office experience, the student will gain hands-on laboratory experience. The student will prepare lab for testing, handle chemical spills, dispose of broken glassware, get rid of non-hazardous and chemical waste safely, and wear lab attire and protective gear, such protective gloves and safety goggles.

Prepare for Lab Sessions
Student will prepare lab for sample analysis. This will include setting up laboratory equipment needed for the experiments, such as microscopes, test tubes and calibrated glass flasks. Also ensure the lab is stocked with necessary supplies. This includes monitoring lab supplies and restocking them as needed.
Clean the Lab
Student will keep the lab clean to ensure contamination does not occur. Clean up any spills and wash the equipment and glassware. Ensure that all caps and tops of reagent bottles are firmly fastened to prevent spills or leakage. Put back supplies and equipment in the designated place after the lesson ends.
Accidents in the lab may lead to injuries, death and property damage. The student should not practice any unsafe behavior in the lab. All supplies and equipment will be stored in a designated place and will be locked up. Electrical equipment will be unplugged to minimize the chances of accidents and fires.
Objective # 2: Provide students a real-world hands-on experience. The supervisor will oversee undergraduate and graduate student’s experiential learning.
The student will learn to work safely and accurately (as both are critical requirements for working in a laboratory environment); verify the accuracy and validity of data entered in databases; correct any errors, prepare tables, graphs, and fact sheets; and written reports summarizing research results. Responsible to model the University’s and the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence and respectful collaboration.
Prepare, manipulate, and manage extensive databases.
Facilitate gathering of materials and data for various projects and reports; write summaries of project findings as requested.
Provide assistance with the preparation of project-related reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
Obtain informed consent of research subjects.
Perform qualitative analysis and/or quantitative analyses of data, using computer software as applicable.
Verify the accuracy and validity of data entered in databases; correct any errors.
Prepare tables, graphs, fact sheets, and written reports summarizing research results.
Edit and submit protocols and other required research documentation.
Develop and implement research quality control procedures.
Research topical areas as requested including the completion of comprehensive literature and web searches.
The candidate must be actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. The individual must possess a strong vocabulary; be fluent in English, spelling, punctuation, and nuances of the English language; be proficient in computer operation; and must possess knowledge of care and operation of modern office practices, procedures and operations of commonly used office equipment; and must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be familiar with laboratory and standard laboratory practices.Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Strong attention to detail
Skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
Knowledge of basic descriptive and inferential statistics preferred.
