Job Number:

LBRE plans, constructs and maintains the Stanford campus, as well as manages Stanford's commercial lands. Our work is founded upon the collective value of dedication, innovation, expertise, teamwork, and continuous improvement. We are committed to serving the university's academic mission, as well as preserving and enhancing Stanford's 8,180 acres, and pride ourselves on supporting the teaching and research of the university as “Caretakers of a Legacy."

LBRE is seeking a full-time Executive Director, Sustainability and Energy Management to provide leadership for the operations and stewardship of energy production, water systems, utility distribution, and sustainability programs on the campus of Stanford University. This position will report to the Associate Vice President of Academic Projects and Operations, LBRE. The Executive Director will manage campus energy operations and business functions for electric power, renewable energy, thermal energy, domestic water, sewer, and storm water systems. A key responsibility for the ED is to steward the Stanford Energy System Innovations (SESI) project, which is a state-of-the art heat recovery district energy system, completed in 2015, that is powered by solar energy assets at two locations in the Central Valley. The ED will help refine and implement an existing draft plan to achieve a 100% carbon-free campus for Scope 1 and 2 emissions through carbon fuel elimination, building system conversions, and expanded on-site solar installations.

In addition to energy and thermal systems, the ED will be responsible for Stanford's domestic and lake (irrigation) water, sewer, and storm water management systems, including 3 dams that are located on Stanford lands. The ED is responsible for managing the utilities in a way that supports and advances environmental sustainability, prioritizes employee safety and well-being, and ensures that quality service is provided to all customers. They will bring visionary and critical thinking skills to help advance current initiatives for smart campus integration in university operations and maintenance. The ED will embrace the LBRE Core Values of Leadership, Exploration, Gratitude, Accountability, Community and You, in their management style and help to build an organization where these qualities serve as the foundation for successful and rewarding careers for all employees within the department.
