McNair Program Coordinator
The 2017-2022 CU Boulder McNair project is funded to serve 25 eligible students as part of the pre-college to post-baccalaureate TRiO community on campus. One goal is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. degrees by students from underrepresented segments of society, including first-generation and low-income students. The McNair has a 20-year history at CU-Boulder.
This position is responsible for the coordination of program services and events; financial records and student files; communication plan and assessment data. The scope of professional duties ranges from collaborative projects such as coordinating the annual retreat to independent projects such as developing the communication plan.
The Coordinator works with the program director to meet objectives and compliances based on federal and institutional guidelines using an applied knowledge of EDGAR and the OMB Uniform Guidance. This knowledge includes an understanding of TRiO legislation/regulation with an ability to analyze, synthesize, and justify the plan of operations in relation to external (DOE) and internal (SPA) requirements.
This position requires collegiality, professionalism, and problem-solving initiative under a high-volume, highly collaborative workload.

Who We AreThe McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO program funded at 187 institutions across the United States and Puerto Rico by the U.S. Department of Education. It is designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair participants are either first-generation college students with financial need or members of a group that is traditionally underrepresented in graduate education and have demonstrated strong academic potential. The goal of the McNair Scholars Program is to increase graduate degree awards for students from underrepresented segments of society.What Your Key Responsibilities Will BeProgram Coordination:
- Coordinate daily operations of this post-baccalaureate preparation program through the annual McNair program cycle from outreach through retention to graduation.
- Work with the program director to implement a plan of operations, including caseload management, workshop development and facilitation, and collaborative efforts with campus and community partners.
- Perform duties delegated by the program director to ensure delivery of required and permissible services, including event planning, course coordination, and other program activities.
- Track and maintain contact with McNair Scholar alumni. Travel with students to McNair conferences.
- Work with the program director to design and implement record management for high-stakes assessment, including formative and summative evaluation of services, staffing, and resources.
- Coordinate and contribute to the improvement of all program records, including the logic model, funder reports, mentor handbooks, participant files, and program database.
- Work with the program director on collecting, assessing, and justifying annual performance data and grant renewal data.
- Independently coordinate authorized sponsored project procurement with direct oversight of budget-to-actual transactions.
- Work with the program director to ensure compliance with federal and university policies.
- Serve as co-liaison to SPA using an applied knowledge of EDGAR and OMB Uniform Guidance, including the ability to analyze and justify federal legislation and regulation in terms of operationalized budget.
- Independently serve as a liaison to OFA and coordinate all scholarship disbursements.
- Oversee work-study requests for students as well as travel requests for staff and students. Collaborates with SASC Administration on maintaining auditable financial records.
- Work with the program director to implement a multimedia communication plan for the recruitment of students, training of faculty and graduate student mentors, stewardship of donors, and outreach to alumni.
- Independently design and maintain the website, newsletter, and social media accounts, including direct responsibility for maintaining alumni network crucial to program evaluation(see Records Coordination).
- Partner with the program director on strategic relations material as required.
- This position will be at 50% time or 20 hours per week.
- The anticipated starting salary is $24,000 adjusted for 50% time.

- A Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of two years of experience administering an educational opportunity program at a 2-year or 4-year institution.
- At least 1 year of direct experience with student support.
- Knowledge of TRiO legislation, regulation, and history or the immediate capacity to develop this expertise.
- Practical experience working with underserved, underrepresented, or non-traditional students.
- Experience with file management, social media, and engaging students in an online environment.
- Skills in facilitating workshops in-person and via video conference.
- Knowledge of the graduate school application process.
- A Master’s Degree in a STEM field, Education, or a related field.
- Track record of successful event planning or workshop facilitation.
- TRiO or comparable educational opportunity program alumni status may be substituted for up to 1 year of the 2-year minimum years of experience.
