Stanford Energy's Precourt Institute for Energy (PIE) seeks an Explore Energy Program Manager to assist Dr. Diana Gragg, the Explore Energy Managing Director, in developing and leading a comprehensive program for experiential learning, energy literacy and mentoring that will serve undergraduate and graduate students across Stanford's seven schools. We're looking for a Program Manager who is creative, passionate about working closely with students, and would be excited to help build a world-class student-facing integrative energy program from the ground up. The Program Manager reports to the Managing Director of the Explore Energy program.

The goals of the Explore Energy program are to help students navigate and connect with new and existing energy-related Stanford programs, research opportunities, mentoring, internships, networks and alumni; to contribute to the energy literacy of students on campus; and to enhance students' energy knowledge through experiential learning. The program will engage students as they explore and define their pathways within and outside the energy ecosystem at the university. We want to be the go-to resource for students to learn about all thing's energy related on campus!

The Program Manager's main job responsibilities include the following:
  • Student engagement is a big part of this role. The candidate should have an enthusiasm to work with students and be excited about developing strong lasting connections with them. Knowledge of Stanford University as a student is preferred but not required.
  • Creativity, passion, and excitement to create a positive, meaningful program for Stanford students to help them navigate their connections with energy on campus is a must - we're here to broaden their experience, to increase their ability to have a positive impact in the world, to support their goals and help steward them towards being good global citizens. Part of that support requires the program manager to develop strong relationships with energy-related staff, faculty, and alumni, stay informed on their efforts, keep them informed of our efforts, and connect students with the various opportunities.
  • Organize and plan CEE 107R/207R: E^3 - Extreme Energy Efficiency, a winter quarter experiential learning course in Basalt, CO at Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) for 40 students
  • Generally, support the Managing Director in various ways to support the Explore Energy program (including taking notes, managing to-do lists, scheduling meetings, developing communications to Explore Energy advisory board members, monitoring the budget, evaluating programs, etc)


Other responsibilities include
  • Marketing of Explore Energy and related programs, including managing the Energy Tricycle
  • Event Planning, eg. to bring students together, to provide networking opportunities with alumni
  • Online Support, including managing the website, developing online material, maintaining a student-energy network, etc.
  • Energy education - personally stay up to date with the latest in energy information by reading, watching/attending seminars, etc.
  • Collaborate and work together with other program managers at Precourt


Applicants should have at minimum a BA/BS. Background in energy fields is a plus.

Workplace Environment:

Precourt Institute for Energy (PIE) is a teamwork-focused and collaborative work environment. The Explore Energy program manager will work closely with the Managing Director for the Explore Energy program. The program manager will also connect with other program managers, staff, and directors at various PIE meetings, check-ins, and social events. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the position will be all done remotely until Stanford University deems it safe for a return to campus. Regular meetings, check-ins and interactions will all be done via Zoom.

JOB PURPOSE:

Work under the direction of faculty or other management to implement and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the assigned academic entity/program(s) utilizing specialized/technical knowledge.

CORE DUTIES:
  • Oversee and administer research activities by evaluating academic programs, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and coordinating and implementing changes.
  • Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends to determine program effectiveness; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program.
  • Teach and/or assist in the teaching and administration of courses. Create and/or advise in the development of curriculum. Make recommendations for course improvements.
  • Write and edit content for proposals, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities under the general direction of PI. Assist with the development of research grants, (i.e., may suggest new funding opportunities, write portions of grants, and/or summarize data for grant support).
  • Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school and develop communications for internal and external constituencies. Organize and/or participate in outreach activities such as events, partnerships, fundraising, training, and conferences. Lead workshops and facilitate meetings.
  • Monitor expenses, budgets, and finances of the program. Make recommendations on funding based on program spend.
  • May oversee and train student workers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. Program administration and or research experience may be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and provide basic direction to staff.


Certifications and Licenses:
  • For teaching jobs, advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
  • Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.
  • On-campus mobility.
