Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. The University also operates in its historic downtown facilities, offering cultural events, graduate classes, and continuing education. Student housing is available in New Cairo. Job Description:

The Department of Arab and Islamic Civilizations (ARIC) at the American University in Cairo (AUC) is seeking to recruit adjunct faculty members in the fields of Arabic Literature, Arab History, and Islamic Art and Architecture. The candidates must have a strong background in one of these areas, as well as suitable qualifications and experience. The candidates will teach the following undergraduate courses: Modern Arabic Literature, Modern Arabic Literature in Translation, The World of Islamic Architecture, from the Beginnings to the Present Day, Art and Architecture of the City of Cairo, Survey of Arab History, The Writer and the State, The Arabic Short Story, Senior Seminar in Arabic Texts.


Commitment to teaching and engagement of students, as well as service to the Unit and the Department are necessary. An active research and practice agenda is recommended. Candidates can be at the level of MA or MS, PhD degree holders.
