The Assistant Project Scientist will perform activities associated with measurements of the concentrations and isotopic composition of contaminants in the environment. A primary objective of the position is to study the biogeochemical processes that control the cycling of trace element toxicants, including lead, across different temporal and spatial scales. The successful candidate will investigate exposure to trace element toxicants and their associated implications for human and environmental health in California. The Assistant Project Scientist is expected to collaborate with internal and external scientists to assess the health of coastal waters, including by using proxies to estimate historical changes in oxygen levels in these systems. The successful candidate is expected to prepare proposals for external funding to support additional projects, write manuscripts for publication in refereed journals, and present their results at scientific meetings. In addition, the Assistant Project Scientist is expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in field and laboratory techniques, and have relationships with students from minority-serving institutions including HBCUs and Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The position will include opportunities to attend career development workshops and classes.

PhD in a science related discipline or related field is required.
