Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley's School of Law is one of the nation's great centers for legal education, ever exploring and pushing new intellectual boundaries while tackling urgent, real-world issues.  The law school is also known for its vibrant and engaged community of students and scholars who are committed to providing leadership and making a difference on problems of local, national and global import.  Currently ranked among the top law schools in the country, the School of Law has ambitious development goals as it looks to continue producing leaders in law, government, and society.

Involves planning, coordinating and administering programs, process, facilities and technical systems in support of teaching, learning, research, communications and administrative purposes. Includes one or more of the following areas: writing and editing, technical, instructional or command media, video and audiovisual production.  Provides counsel to campus representatives coordinating class instruction, major projects or events.  This position serves the advancement of legal training for students and research by faculty, which requires extensive use of innovative computer and audiovisual technology to communicate and educate most effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Works with faculty, staff and students to display, amplify, record, edit and distribute classes, lectures, events and online and hybrid learning at the law school by providing and operating a wide variety of instructional, multimedia, audiovisual technologies, networks and computer hardware and software.
  • Provides consultative advice and support to faculty and other presenters on educational and media technology such as video conferencing, live streaming and polling platforms to deliver and enhance presentations, teaching and learning.  Interviews faculty to assess requirements for instructional technology and advises on appropriate methods and technology to meet their specific instructional needs.
  • Applies troubleshooting skills to address equipment, system and process issues in support of our media and classroom technical infrastructure. May develop user documentation for training and process improvements.
  • Applies project management concepts in combination with AV-IT policies and procedures in determining technical support work flow. 
  • Analyzes and interprets intellectual property (IP) policy and law and ensures that media meet IP requirements. 
  • Develops or escalates training as needed based on consultation with users and understanding of technology, including FAQ's, knowledge-base entries, and job aids. 

Required Qualifications
  • Thorough understanding of video and audio production methods and equipment with the ability to use this information to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Thorough understanding of classroom-based instructional technologies
  • Experience with various web, video conferencing and live streaming technology, including  Zoom, Youtube, Facebook, Kaltura and Google Suites.
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies, and adapt to a rapidly evolving field. 
  • Good understanding of video production and post-production processes, including experience with video and audio recording and editing.
  • Ability to assess Campus needs for AV IT technology products and design services to meet those needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at all levels in the organization.
  • Thorough customer service and consultative skills to identify, communicate and implement required technology solutions.
  • Broad general knowledge of computer, audio, video, and networking technology.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.

Education/Training:
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience coordinating, delivering, and troubleshooting Audio-Visual and Instructional Technology services.
  • Experience consulting with and advising clients on technical, multimedia, audiovisual and online presentation methods, equipment and intellectual property issues.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an academic, instructional and/or event setting.
  • Experience with room AV and conferencing systems such as Crestron, AMX, QSC, Zoom.
  • Experience with Final Cut Pro and/or Premiere.

Salary & Benefits

This is a non-exempt, biweekly paid position. Hourly pay range is $32.60-$33.91, commensurate with experience.
