Shenandoah University is accepting applications for an Experiential Coordinator at our Fairfax campus. This is a full-time benefited position located at our Inova Center for Personalized Health (ICPH) campus in Fairfax, Virginia.

The Experiential Education Coordinator will conduct the day to day activities necessary to deliver the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) programs at the School of Pharmacy. The Experiential Education Coordinator will interact with students, preceptors, faculty and staff. This position requires the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. This position reports to the Director of Experiential Education.

Responsibilities of the position include:

    Perform activities involved in daily operations of the IPPE and APPE programsReview, analyze and problem solve issues related to student placement and program management of the IPPE and APPE program for the northern Virginia area. Work within CORE ELMS (experiential database) for pertinent items pertaining to IPPE and APPE, including student placement, student and preceptor schedules, evaluations of the IPPE and APPE program and assessment of outcomes. Recruit IPPE and APPE sites and preceptors in northern Virginia to meet the demand of the school and student preferences. Educate student pharmacists regarding items pertaining to IPPE and APPE.Schedule IPPE and APPE for students during the designated timeframes and in sites that meet the quality evaluation of the school. Assure all new preceptors and/or sites have been reviewed and approved by the school and have been educated on the school’s policies and procedures for IPPE and APPE and pertinent student affairs.Conduct and ensure the completion of regular quality assessments of and visits to IPPE and APPE sites and preceptors. Work jointly and collaboratively with the Experiential Education Coordinator for the Winchester campus, administrative assistant, faculty and staff at the school.Participate in School of Pharmacy and University activities as requested.

Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3 years of experience in a field related to the position. Experience working within healthcare education is preferred. Experience working with graduate students is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

    Ability to demonstrate initiative, judgment and discretion in carrying out duties.Knowledge for proficient use of computer hardware and software, and other contemporary office equipment.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to perform basic math calculations.Knowledge of applicable policies, practices and procedures.Good organization and time-management skills with attention to detailsAble to prioritize work, meet deadlines and provide attention to detail

Shenandoah's History

Dayton, Virginia was Shenandoah’s home for 85 years. In 1875, the university was founded there as Shenandoah High School. Over the next 85 years, the institution changed names six times but always kept “Shenandoah” as part of its name. In 1946, the school nearly closed due to financial concerns. Rather than closing the school, university president Dr. Forrest S. Racey oversaw the move to Winchester. The last classes in Dayton began in the fall of 1959 with an enrollment of 159 students. Shenandoah opened its doors in Winchester in September 1960.

 

In Winchester, the school began to thrive and, in 1991, became Shenandoah University.
