Job Summary

Provide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory to include performing analyses; setup, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.

Job Duty 2 -
Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.

Job Duty 3 -
Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations.

Job Duty 4 -
May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.

Job Duty 5 -
Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.

Job Duty 6 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Required Experience
Up to two years of job related experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge in the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment, laboratory processes and procedures specific to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and the use of specialized computer applications is required.

Other Information A position is available for a 6 month temporary research scientist to perform high throughput PCR screening for the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in a CLIA certified laboratory. Applicants must have a minimum of a PhD degree, or board certification in clinical genetics (ABMGG) or medical technology (ASCP). Additional requirements include demonstrated experience with RNA purification and RT-QPCR. Experience with genetic testing, availability to work each weekday, and ability to meet timelines is required. First-hand knowledge of the KingFisher Flex and Echo 525 automated liquid handlers would be considered as a plus during consideration for the position. The position is for an initial period of 6 months, but may be extended depending on progress with mitigation of COVID-19.
