Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Administrative Assistant. This position is responsible for a variety of administrative and critical clerical duties; greets and assists students, faculty, staff and visitors. Serves as an ambassador for the office and is the first contact for visitors and callers. Resolves concerns and/or makes referrals as necessary or appropriate. Answers phones, opens, scans, and distributes incoming mail; takes meeting minutes, prepares letters, requisitions and other documents; orders supplies; transmits payment for services to the Cashier’s office. Provides assistance in the maintenance of student records; assists with registration, graduation, information dissemination and other activities in support of office functions; provides support for other areas as assigned. The Journalism and Mass Communications (JMC) administrative assistant will assist also with special projects including the Southern Regional Press Institute, the SSU Indie Film Fest, the JMC Advisory Board among other special activities.

Work includes some evenings and weekends during special programs and peak periods. Employee may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, competitive benefits program.

Minimum Qualifications

An associate’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and one year of previous administrative experience. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills required. Requirements include ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds, sit for extended periods and work nights and weekends as needed. Background and /or credit check may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
