Position Highlights:

The University of Arizona elementary experimantal particle physics (EEPP) group is looking for a temporary full-time lab assistant to work 4-6 months. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Switzerland is upgrading its particle detectors. This will require over 4000 custom electronic circuit boards. You will help finish the testing of these boards in Arizona, to be shipped for installation in the LHC this fall. You'll be working in a highly collaborative work environment, testing alongside University of Arizona students, while maintaining COVID-19 safety practices. Testing will be automated and repetitive, and does not require a technical degree or knowledge of particle physics. Some experience in a lab environment is welcome, but mostly a close attention to detail and a conscientious work ethic is needed. This is a unique experience to help support the largest scientific collaboration in the world and to be a part of future scientific discoveries.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Connecting basic electronics.
  • Running automated software test.
  • Inspecting printed circuit boards (PCB).
  • Spreadsheet entry.
  • Inventory and organizing of lab materials.
  • Packaging boards and parts for shipping.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of linux.
  • Ability to follow instructions carefully.
  • Ability to maintain focus when performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to maintain meticulous records of test results and progress.
  • Ability to work in a team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required.
  • Prior work experience not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with basic lab equipment helpful: power supplies, mulitmeters, function generators
