The Community Outreach Assistant will work with the Outreach Manager and other Outreach Assistants to meet the goals and objectives of the SNAP - Ed program in Northern Navajo and Apache County, including the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe. This position will provide support in the fields of Policy, Systems, and Environment and Direct Education in food systems, (gardening, summer foods), school health(local wellness policies), active living (physical activity opportunities) and early childhood (Empower, nutrition education) through use of approved curricula and resources. This position will attend and provide workshops, community events, meetings and direct education events to approved sites.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists in the planning, preparation and presentation of subject matter in nutrition, gardening and physical activity for SNAP eligible participants (families, youth, adults and seniors) through workshops, training sessions and community events in accordance with established goals and objectives.
  • Assists and/or organizes, plans, promotes, coordinates and conducts nutrition, physical education and gardening programs in Northern Navajo County, including the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribal lands in accordance with established goals and objectives
  • Composes notices, prepares and completes reports and fulfills other related functions to conduct assigned nutrition education programs for Navajo County communities.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.

High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of teaching principals, practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organizational skill in community coalition building.
  • Experience in obtaining community resources.
  • Experience in record keeping and preparing reports
  • Skill in the use of MS Office and using the internet.
  • Experience in home/community gardening.
