The successful candidate will hold primary appointments in both the Department of Immunobiology and the Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center (A2DRC), at the University of Arizona. This position will be administered by the A2DRC, which was established in the 1970s and has been spearheading an interdisciplinary vision of translational medicine that integrates clinical medicine with epidemiology, immunology, genetics, epigenetics, pharmacology and cutting edge technology in order to understand, prevent, and treat airway disease. Within the Center, the successful candidate will direct the System Biology Unit, furthering the A2DRC’s mission to improve our understanding of the risk factors, natural history, molecular and cellular biology, genetics and treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Within the department, the candidate will be expected to participate in medical and/or graduate teaching and service at the departmental, college and university levels.

Duties & Responsibilities

Interact with, and contribute 10% of time to, thestrategic UAHS initiative in Personalized Defense. That would include, but notbe limited to, attending initiative meetings and providing advice and expertisetowards analysis of systems biology datasets. The candidate is expected tomaintain a vibrant, extramurally funded research program with potential fortranslational applications; contribute to graduate (Ph.D.) and/or medical(M.D.) education; and provide institutional service in the Department ofImmunobiology.

  • Establish a successful research program thatwill advance knowledge on system biology and immunology of human complexdiseases, with specific emphasis on airway disease and a second priority onhost: microbe interactions.
  • Develop and sustain productive interactionswith biomedical investigators seeking expertise in gene expression studies ofhuman complex diseases.
  • Promote and strengthen interdisciplinarytraining and education in system biology.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. and/or an M.D.
  • Active funded lab in immunology of airway diseases
  • Peer-reviewed publications in nationally recognized journals
