Postdoctoral Research Associate
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University invites applications for a postdoctoral or more senior research associate position starting July 2020 or later. A Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computational Mathematics, Astrophysics, (Applied) Physics, or a related area is required. This research position is in the Computational Turbulent Reacting Flow Laboratory (CTRFL) led by Prof. Michael E Mueller. The specific project will apply computational algorithms and modeling approaches from dispersed-phase turbulent flows to plasmas relevant to magnetically-confined fusion. A candidate for this position is sought with previous experience and expertise in quadrature-based moment methods, Large Eddy Simulation of multi-physics turbulent flows, and/or computational plasma physics. The successful candidate will apply approaches used for solution of the Generalized Population Balance Equation in dispersed-phase flows to solution of the Vlasov equation in plasma physics, substantially reducing time-to-solution for the kinetic description of plasmas. The candidate will also be expected to work closely with other graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the group toward collaborative development of a common computational software framework. Appointments are for one year, renewable annually based on satisfactory performance and available funding. This appointment is subject to the University's background check policy. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Applicants must apply online and submit their vitae, including a list of publications and presentations, a summary of research accomplishments and interests, and the names and addresses of at least three potential references to https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/15461. Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
