The Department of Anthropology coordinates and directs a program for those who wish to pursue a career in the discipline of anthropology, for those simply interested in the human condition, and for those who may wish to combine the study of anthropology with another discipline.

Courses in anthropology are grouped to provide students with an understanding of human physical, social, and cultural complexity, and the relationships of humans to one another and the environment. Physical anthropology provides an understanding of human origins and human biological variability. Linguistic anthropology adds to the understanding of language and other forms of human communication within the context of culture. Archaeology provides a sense of the past by exploring the changes and development of ancient cultures and environments. Sociocultural anthropology provides appreciation and understanding of human social and cultural patterns and human behavior.

Position Summary

The Department of Anthropology seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs.

The anticipated need may include, but is not limited to, a variety of undergraduate sociocultural courses, general anthropology, peoples and cultures courses and advanced topics courses. Graduate courses may include, but are not limited to, courses in methods, theory and praxis, design.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s in Anthropology for is required for teaching undergraduate courses and a PhD in Anthropology or related field is required for teaching graduate courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching college level courses; familiarity with Blackboard/similar system; experience with a diverse student population; excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate with diverse staff and students.
