Job Description:

Saybrook University is seeking a Federal Work Study Student: To serve as Editorial Assistant on the Walk in My Shoes Project.

Under the direction of the President's Office, the Federal Work Study Student is responsible for carrying out a variety of tasks to assist the Walk in My Shoes Project team.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Administrative Assistance - Responsible for providing direct assistance for the book development project. Field questions via written or verbal communications. Scheduling related meetings with teams and individuals as appropriate. Schedule and prep for media interviews and appearances or talks regarding the book topic.
  • Verify Facts - As appropriate, fact-checking on specific historical and or story facts seeking to avoid problems with plagiarism or false information.
  • Check Grammar and Punctuation - Proof-reading and reading of chapters for grammar and punctuation that often are not caught by spell check programs.
  • Assist with pre and post workshop attendees and contributors to book (mostly poems, short stories produced at the workshop/salon).
  • Assist with coordination for workshop/salon as appropriate. Act as liaison between writers and Saybrook alumna Dr. Gloria Chance during their chapter contribution. As appropriate, may conduct follow-up interviews related to chapters.

Position Requirements:

  • Candidate must be a current Saybrook student in good standing.
  • Project work must be academically relevant, to the maximum extent practicable, to the student's program of study.
  • Must have applied for federal work study via the FAFSA

Position Qualifications:

  • Candidate must demonstrate competence in writing and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.The position also requires hours of typing, compute work, and reading each week.
  • Must be able to communicate via email and/or over platforms such as Zoom.
