The Department of Biology at the University of Florida, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-accruing position at the rank of Lecturer, beginning January 4, 2021 in the area of Genetics. This is a renewable appointment with the possibility of promotion based on experience and merit. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related life science, or in Education with an emphasis on Biology or STEM. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package. The Department of Biology highly values candidates competent in teaching, training, and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.

Preference will be given to applicants with at least one semester of teaching experience at the college level, but exceptional applicants at the Ph.D. level without this may be considered. Preference will also be given to applicants with interest and experience in pedagogical research and evidence-based teaching practices. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach undergraduate courses in the areas of genetics and related fields, will teach collaboratively with other members of the department, and will partner with the department to promote active learning as well as participate in other departmental service.

Qualifications:

PhD degree. Preference will be given to applicants with at least one semester of teaching experience at the college level, but exceptional applicants at the Ph.D. level without this may be considered. For full consideration, applications must be submitted online at http://apply.interfolio.com/78311.  A complete application includes: (1) a one page cover letter summarizing the applicant's qualifications and interests in the Department, (2) a complete curriculum vitae including the names and contact information for three references, (3) a list of courses the applicant is prepared to teach, and a sample syllabus for a Genetics course for Biology majors, (4) a statement of teaching philosophy, which includes a statement of interest and/or experience with pedagogical research and scholarship (maximum of two pages) and a statement of the applicant's commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion (maximum of one page), and (5) three confidential letters of recommendation. The deadline for complete applications is Oct. 7, 2020. Only complete applications will be reviewed at this time. We expect to interview candidates starting on Nov. 9, 2020.

Final candidate will be required to provide official transcript to the hiring department upon hire. A transcript will not be considered “official” if a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible. Degrees earned from an education institution outside of the United States are required to be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/.
