This position is the key integrative role in the Sociology Department. It requires one to work with highly confidential matters and to do so with a high level of managerial skills. Responsible for the management and effective operation of the Sociology Departmental Office. These duties include, but are not limited to, serving as the HR contact who manages student, staff and faculty hiring and paperwork; serving as the Business contact who will manage the department budget and process TAs, payment requests, and reimbursements; managing the course schedule; and overseeing the main office. This position supervises one Administrative Specialist II.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of work experience that is directly related to the area of employment, or high school diploma and 7 years work experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or equivalency.

Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to communicate effectively with the public. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
