About the College/Unit/Department

The Plant Genome Mapping Lab is part of the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences and the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences. In addition to the Director, the lab is currently comprised of 3 Research Scientists, 2 Postdoctoral Associates, 6 research staff, an Administrative Manager, a Scientific Computing Professional, and several graduate students. PGML frequently hosts visiting scholars from around the world.

Position Summary

This is a position which independently performs administrative functions for UGA’s Plant Genome Mapping Laboratory by planning, organizing and executing of the day to day operations of this unit of about 20 senior personnel with a $1.5 million/yr annual budget. http://www.plantgenome.uga.edu/ The role independently performs accounting, budgeting, auditing, purchasing, and other financial or related functions to ensure the financial integrity of PGML. This position assists the Lab Director in payroll planning and processes position funding actions and serves as the Time and Absence approver and OneUSG Connect System manager for the unit. It works with the Office of International Education to assist international hires and visiting scholars, reviews grant proposal budgets, submits proposals in eResearch Portal, and manages grant awards.

Sponsored Projects Administration: Assist PI’s in developing budgets and justifications for grant proposals including proposal preparation, post-award management, and state fund management. Enter proposal information in e-Research Portal. Administer grant budgets in accordance with agency and UGA policies. Prepare financial reports as requested.

Percentage of time45Duties/Responsibilities

Fiscal Management: Preparation and submission of financial transactions including payroll, budget and general ledger journals, travel authorizations, payment requests and UGAMart requisitions. Manage state, sales and services, and sponsored project accounts and ensure accuracy of system financial data. Process intra-university charges for departmental sales account. Oversee and participate in planning, developing, and administering unit budget as a part of the annual budget development process.
