Position Summary:

In partnership with the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic planning for the administrative operations of the school. The Assistant Dean is expected to exercise independent judgment and decision making while advising the Dean and school leadership on issues pertaining to decision support, finance, academic planning, research operations, space planning, student affairs, and human resources/academic affairs. The Assistant Dean serves as a key strategic advisor, responsible for the entire scope of planning, operations, and resource management for the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and will be responsible for planning, designing, and implementing various initiatives and processes across the school.

Responsible for managing the administrative services and / or general operations of a school, OR college OR large, multiple or interdisciplinary department(s) within a college, or large or multiple non-academic department(s). Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources. Reviews and approves recommendations for functional programs. Monitors division and department adherence to approved budget. Involved in developing, modifying and executing organizational policies that affect immediate operation(s) and may also have organization-wide effect. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

Required:

8 to 10 years of relevant job experience with a BA/BS in related field; or 3 to 5 years with an MA/MS; or equivalent experience.

Bachelor's degree in related area.

Excellent project management skills, including the capability of managing capital projects. Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs. Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll. Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others and to develop and maintain high standards of customer service. Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution. Experience with higher education. Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals.

Preferred:

Knowledge of UC policies and procedures.
