The UNC Solar Energy Research Center (SERC) is headquartered in the Chemistry Department at UNC Chapel Hill, and focuses on research in Solar Energy, with 100 faculty, staff and students, and with partners at Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, North Carolina State University, Emory University and Brookhaven National Laboratory. The UNC SERC Executive Assistant position provides administrative support to the Center.

Position Description

This UNC SERC Executive Assistant will assist the Directors of the UNC Solar Energy Research Center (www.efrc.unc.edu) in the Chemistry Department at UNC Chapel Hill with a variety of administrative activities involved with running a major research Center. Duties will include meeting scheduling and support, administrative activities, budget and account support, management of web-based information databases, fielding inquiries, providing administrative support with grant proposals and post-award reporting, drafting non-technical materials and correspondence, event planning and management.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

The UNC SERC Executive Assistant position requires strong computer skills and a high level of experience and proficiency with current versions of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Applicants should possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to communicate clearly and professionally; a positive problem-solving attitude; the ability to work independently and as an effective team member; self-motivation and highly developed organizational skills; the ability to multi-task with an attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is preferred, ideally in business administration or a related discipline with a minimum of 3 years’ related experience in progressively responsible positions. Experience in academic administration or in a research setting, with demonstrated experience in conference and event planning is preferred. Manuscript-editing experience is preferred.
Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and videoconferencing tools would be an advantage. Experience with PeopleSoft finance systems in a university setting would be helpful.
