The Applied Biomechanics Laboratory (abl.web.unc.edu) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a postdoctoral position to begin as soon as the position is filled. Research efforts for this position will primarily focus on investigating muscle-tendon adaptations underlying reduced mobility and higher metabolic energy cost in our older adult population – with broader implications for those with more acute gait pathology. The applicant will be encouraged to pursue a research agenda that aligns with their professional aspirations. To accomplish this, the applicant will have access to an integrative combination of experimental and computational techniques, from quantitative motion analysis and in vivo ultrasound imaging to musculoskeletal modeling and bioenergetic simulation.

We are uniquely positioned in the UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering (bme.unc.edu), which integrates the exceptional strengths of the UNC Chapel Hill College of Arts & Sciences and School of Medicine and the NC State University College of Engineering. Together, this facilitates meaningful and productive collaborations between scientists, engineers, and clinicians and offers tremendous opportunities for professional development. The Applied Biomechanics Laboratory offers state-of-the-art and dedicated facilities to support the applicants’ research

Educational Requirements

The successful candidate will have completed their Ph.D. in an area related to the biomechanics or neuromechanics of human movement

Qualifications and Experience

Research experience and strong technical skills in human motion analysis, ultrasound imaging and analysis, rehabilitation engineering, and/or musculoskeletal modeling are highly desirable. The position is funded for an initial period of 1 year with the possibility for renewal.

Equal Opportunity Employer
