Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare a detailed plan of operation of the “Risk Assessment of Pesticide Use and Air Dispersion in Urban Agricultural Interface Communities” project activities and implement accordingly.
- Developing a statistical model to estimate and predict pesticide exposure among the populations in the urban agricultural interface. The model will be calibrated and validated to improve its prediction of pesticide exposure and health effects in the study area.
- Design and conduct the potential impact of meteorological conditions on the prevalence of pesticides in the selected locations.
Develop a new tool by integrating the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and HYSPLIT modeling and other software aimed at a consistent workflow. This workflow will include a high-resolution climate model, air parcel trajectories and dispersion model, risk analysis, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Monitor and guide graduate and undergraduate students.
- Collect and analyze research and meteorological data, and prepare manuscripts for journals and extension publications, such as fact sheets, research highlights, bulletins, and technotes.
- Coordinate day-to-day research and extension activities of the project: planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Plan, advertise, and organize training sessions, workshops, and field days.
- Collect and compile daily accomplishments and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.
- Perform quarterly, annual, and final impact assessments/evaluations of the project in a timely manner.
- Prepare a comprehensive final report of the project.
- Participate in relevant meetings, seminars, and conferences, and present the project results and outcomes as necessary.
- Perform other relevant assignments as directed by the supervisor.
- Ph.D. in meteorology, atmospheric science, or any other related field, focusing on Long experience in Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model; both weather and climate versions.
- Ability to deal with different physics and chemistry schemes in the WRF model.
- Strong background in computational fluid mechanics with demonstrated skills in developing specific codes compatible with the WRF and HYSPLIT models.
- In-depth experience in the integration of the WRF model with agronomy and hydrological models.
- Strong background in UNIX/LINUX commands and parallel computing.
- Previously dealt with the High-Performance Computing (HPC) supercomputer environment.
- Excellent in related computer software and many other meteorology applications and software.
- Must be fluent in the English language, speaking, and writing skills, demonstrated by a record of presentations in a refereed conference and many publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with a little supervision and a good team player.
- Ability to develop research and extension publications and progress reports.
- Experience in designing and conducting meteorological and climatological studies.
- Ability to travel independently to various counties in Alabama.
- Skills in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher) and data analysis packages (Excel, R, SAS, and any related software).
- Experience in organizing training, seminars, workshops, meetings, and field days.
- Ability to conduct an impact assessment and prepare progress reports.
Commensurate with education, training, and experience: Salary is contingent upon outside funding.
