Senior Project Manager of Occupational Health and Safety

Who are we?

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) oversees the 8,180 acres of the Stanford historic campus as well as parallel operations at the Redwood City campus. EH&S supports and advances the teaching, learning and research activities at Stanford by promoting a safe and healthy campus environment. We provide and coordinate programs and services that minimize the safety, health, environmental, and regulatory risks in a manner consistent with fiscal and environmental stewardship.
We are comprised of over 10 departments with more than 50 specialists who work in the field with top researchers, faculty, staff, and students to support the mission and research of Stanford University. The work environment is team-oriented, collaborative, deadline-driven, and dynamic.

The Stanford University Occupational Health Center (SUOHC) was established in 2007 to care for the occupational health needs of Stanford University faculty and staff and provides outstanding clinical care to improve the health and safety of University employees. The SU and SLAC Occupational Health Centers are campus-based medical clinics that offer evaluation and treatment for work-related injuries and illnesses, work-related preventive medical services, and OSHA- and departmentally mandated medical surveillance programs.

In this position, you can impact and lead campus-wide initiatives, with an initial focus on the SARS-CoV-2 response. You will report directly to the Deputy Director of EH&S and collaborate closely with the Medical Director of Stanford University Occupational Health Center (SUOHC). Projects are centered around public health initiatives and health care administration. As part of the position, you will also:

• Have full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment for large and complex projects (sometimes simultaneously) in close partnership with senior level leaders, faculty, key business owners, and individual contributors.
• Initial focus on the COVID-19 response, including establishing and optimizing the testing infrastructure in partnership with School of Medicine and Vaden Health Center, and interfacing with Stanford HealthCare and other internal and external partners, including the local Counties, as part of case notification and response.
• Directly support the Occupational Health Center (OHC) Medical Director in researching and developing process improvement proposals for the department, as well as interface with EH&S leadership on various campus initiatives.
• Lead program change management with input from stakeholders and high-level University wide partners. Develop and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders on a focused project; actively manage resistance to change.
• Direct development of an action plan, and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete project.
• Facilitate discussions with medical leadership and university senior level leaders to create common understanding of issues and consensus on solutions. Build and maintain effective and strong business relationships with senior leaders to get commitment for cross-functional projects requiring their input.
• Use EH&S Director's strategic plans to create communication plans for the promotion of the Occupational Health Center and other campus-wide complex health and safety projects Research, analyze, propose, and implement special projects, both developing policy and benchmarking with peer institutions as part of the strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate regularly with IT and analytics groups to develop dashboards and interfaces for various campus populations to use analyzed data in support of projects.
• Create charters, identify project scope and stakeholders across the university, lead the creation of materials and develop communication and action plans to promote and support any initiatives or programs.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

• Bachelor's degree in public health/health care administration or a related field and five years relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
• Experience in management of projects with extensive size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting, or a combination of education and experience.
• Highly effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
• Ability to productively assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
• Ability to balance customer expectations with project reality.
• Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations.
• Keen grasp of interpersonal and impact awareness.
• Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects.
• A high level of proficiency in the Microsoft suite of applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with Tableau or similar data visualization software.
