Brief Position Summary:

Middlebury College is searching for workers who are needed to perform a variety of functions in the dining room area to ensure that all food items are available to the students and that the area is neat, clean and attractive. Keeps salad and serving area stocked throughout serving period. Maintains accurate count of students served and cash collected. Also maintains a clean and sanitary stock of dishes and utensils, washes and sanitizes all pots and utensils as necessary and stores items in appropriate areas. Assists with the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and the servery throughout the day as well as when the Dining Hall closes.
Responsibilities include:
Keeps salad bar and surrounding area well-stocked and organized.
Serves food items to students and maintains attractive and clean serving line, salad and beverage area. Busses and sanitizes tables.
Replenishes food items as necessary.
Answers students’ questions in a polite, courteous manner.
Cleans serving area after each meal and restocks dispensers and other supplies. May stock beverage areas.
Stocks various items including bread, fruits, desserts, etc., during meal and in preparation for future shift.
Constructively occupies time between meals.
Updates kitchen staff on student counts.
Maintains attractive presentation of all food.
Loads soiled dishes, glassware and silverware into dish machine and unload them when they have finished the wash cycle.
Reload chemicals as needed.
Must follow sanitation guidelines.
Unloads and stacks dishes and glassware in appropriate storage areas.
Sorts silverware and utensils and places them in proper storage areas.
Maintains dish room equipment and reports malfunctions to Dining Room Manager or Commons Chef.
Washes all pots, pans and kitchen utensils and sanitizes all pots and utensils. Stores in appropriate areas.
Sweeps and mops kitchen and dish room area.
Removes all trash cans from kitchen area and stores in appropriate area.
Rinses all trash cans and compost containers and ensures they are properly and safely stored.
Qualifications:
No previous experience is required.
Requires practice of proper health sanitation and good math skills, i.e. ability to make change.
Must physically be able to lift 10-20 lbs. numerous times each day.
Must be able to lift full glass racks and coffee racks above waist level. Requires frequent and repetitive bending, reaching, twisting and overhead reaching.
Requires frequent walking and long periods of time standing.
Must be able to work in a hot and humid environment.
