Position Summary

Big Bend Community College invites applications for an Allied Health Coordinator. This position is responsible to coordinate and direct the Medical Assistant and Simulation Technology programs, and provide support for lab activities for allied health and associated programs. The position includes maintaining appropriate curriculum to meet state and national standards.

The Allied Health Coordinator will provide: program advising for current and prospective students, develop community resources for externship placement and clinical instruction, and solicit professional feedback through an advisory committee. This position will report to the Director of Health Education Programs.

Big Bend Community College (BBCC) is a comprehensive public community college serving a large, rural district in central Washington State. BBCC’s main campus is located in the city of Moses Lake (pop. 24,009) in Grant County, situated on the former Larson Air Force Base. In addition to the central campus, BBCC has learning centers in seven outlying communities that provide adult basic education, high school completion, and English Language Learning programs as gateways to college. We are accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and we serve approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000.

Essential Job Duties

Primary essential responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

    Facilitate curriculum evaluation, revision, and implementation to reflect current professional standards for allied health and associated programs, specifically medical assistant and simulation technology. Coordinate, plan, and direct the Medical Assistant education program; plan class schedules of MA and HED classes in coordination with Director of Health Education Programs.Oversee the Medical Simulation Lab and medical simulation equipment. Schedule SIM Center use.Recruit prospective students to allied health and associated programs. Provide advising and support for prospective and current students of allied health and associated programs.Develop community partnerships through the Medical Assistant advisory committee. Solicit feedback from community partners and implement changes as needed to continuously improve the program.Coordinate with area healthcare providers/employers to establish and arrange clinical instruction, clinical sites and placements, and student practicum sites throughout the BBCC service district and occasionally in other areas. Facilitate and assess student practicums and externships, ensuring all required paperwork is completed in a timely manner in accordance with college policies and procedures.Work closely with the Director of Health Education Programs and the instructional deans to recruit program faculty and provide program-specific training to support faculty in courses; promote a positive professional environment and foster professional development.Supervise and mentor adjunct faculty in the program; work with program faculty to assess student learning and effectiveness of allied health and associated programs.Support lab activities for allied health and associated programs including medical assistant, simulation, and skills labs.Exercise fiscal responsibility for department budgets. Ensure appropriate levels of inventory for program use. Notify maintenance personnel of facilities and/or equipment in need of repair.Represent the college and the allied health and associated programs to develop, promote, and enhance vocational educational activities including service on various college, community, and state committees.Ensure responsiveness to student needs by maintaining appropriate communication with team members and other college staff. Proactively manage expectations of students, staff, and faculty. Teach one class each quarter if needed.
Other Work Responsibilities include:
    Maintain professional growth and leadership development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies, including, but not limited to security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures as well as state and federal requirements.Conduct self in a professional manner and ensure the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the college’s values.Able to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, in order to provide services to students or complete tasks on deadline.Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be required.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Current and unencumbered Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or LPN/RN license.Two years clinical experience in an healthcare setting within the last five years.Willingness to receive training in simulation technology.Experience working directly with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
    Demonstrated experience successfully managing multiple projects concurrently.Experience preparing and facilitating medical simulations and/or knowledge of simulation technology equipment and programming.Related training in healthcare, informatics, or simulation.Previous experience teaching or providing training in a healthcare setting or in patient education.Previous supervisory experience.Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
