Job Purpose: Providing guidance, training, and a positive role model to other student workers in the performance of essential library operations at service desk, in circulation and reserves, with the library collections, and for other projects as assigned.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Guidance and training of Library Circulation Desk Assistants; staffing the circulation desk and reserves area; assisting patrons with directional questions, basic information searches, operation of library equipment and computers; checking books and other items in and out; shelving and refilling circulating and reserve items; answering front desk telephone, responding to basic questions and making referrals for more complex inquiries; maintaining and caring for an assigned area of the library collections; completing an assigned library project each semester.
Job Qualifications: Previous experience in libraries required: Ability to provide guidance and training to others; Reliability, timeliness, ability to work during assigned shifts without continuous direct supervision; Accuracy and attention to detail, including knowing and following library policies and practices; Customer service orientation and interpersonal communication skills; Collaborative team approach; Ability to lift weights of up to 40 pounds, to push heavily-loaded book trucks, to use stepladders for access to upper shelves in library stacks.
