Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Division of information Technology Services (ITS) at UNCG has broad responsibilities in determining the strategic direction for information technology deployment and use throughout the campus. The Enterprise Data Architecture team is charged with providing data delivery and presentation platforms as well as data consulting services, that facilitate use of universally consistent data in decision-making across the university.

Position Summary:

The mission of ITS is to leverage expert staff and partnerships to provide sustainable technology services that are reliable, easy-to-use, and effective; and advance university strategic initiatives and regional growth with technological acuity and readiness.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is seeking a Lead Enterprise Data Lake Architect to provide technical leadership for its cloud-based enterprise data lake and data warehouse environments. This senior level technical position has primary responsibility for delivering the strategic enterprise data lake and warehouse resources and data sets required for enterprise-wide operational and predictive analytics.

This position requires strong problem solving skills and a drive to continue learning as technology and desired outcomes change. The position is expected to align business needs with data analysis approaches and solutions, and show a deep understanding of, and desire to contribute to, standards and best practices that benefit the overall enterprise analytics goals.

Management is also open to the possibility of this position being remote.

Minimum Qualifications:

Mid-career with Masters and 1-2 yrs experience
or Bachelors and 2-4 yrs experience or equivalent education/experience.

Key Responsibility:

Serve as technical lead for data platform specialists in cloud data lake and warehouse solution implementations

Essential Tasks:

1.Per architected solutions, implement data lake and warehouse architecture and associated security in chosen cloud solution(s).
2.Develop automated data pipelines, data streams, SQL and NoSQL, or other solutions required for combining/transforming and ingesting data from disparate sources into consistent datasets for use in presentation platforms.
3.Build data service APIs to facilitate automated data delivery to multiple presentation platforms.

Advise AVC on data lake, warehouse, and automated data pipeline and transformation designs.

Essential Tasks:

1.Advise AVC in the data lake and warehouse cloud architecting design process.
2.Provide data source and destination integration and security recommendations.
3.Advise on needs for automated data pipelines, data streams, transformations, and storage needs.

Key Responsibility:

Provide technical leadership to data platform specialists in maintaining data lake and data warehouse platforms.

Essential Tasks:

1. Maintain data lake and warehouse platform as required by operational needs and evolving data standards or required architectural changes.
2.Adhere to established data and network security standards.
3.Modify automated data pipelines, data streams, and other SQL/NoSQL processes as needed to account for operational additions and modifications in underlying data sources and visualization platforms.
4.Provide general operational support and defect remediation for lake and warehouse solutions.

Consult with AVC and clients on operational and analytics data aggregation and transformation needs

Essential Tasks:

1.Work with AVC and clients to understand analytics datasets needed for informed decision-making.
2.Transform client reporting and analytics needs into usable data sets.
3.Advise on appropriate modifications to automated data pipelines, data streams, and transformations to meet specific needs.
