Required License/Registration/Certification

40 hour accredited classroom training for medical interpreting. Establishment of Language Proficiency in English and the target language. Medical Interpreting Certification within a year of hire.

Physical Requirements

This position requires intermittently sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; and job-related travel (10-50% of time). Occasionally requires tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); and working in confined spaces. Some exposure to risk of injury from use of job-related equipment, and exposure to loud noises, radiation, cuts/punctures, and combative/violent people may also be involved.

Shift

Primarily weekends, some weekdays possible.

Job Summary

The Language Interpreter II will provide Spanish interpretation services for UK Healthcare (UKHC), primarily for the Emergency Department at Chandler and Chandler main hospital. This position will accurately convey information between patient and provider; manage the flow of communication to maintain accuracy; facilitate rapport between the provider & patient; recognize & address instances that require intercultural inquiry to ensure accurate & complete understanding; and provide interpretation of policies, procedures, consents, directions, & instructions. These duties enable patients and families to effectively communicate in a language they understand which allows UKHC to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

This is a part-time position.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Documented proficiency in English and Spanish required.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? NoPreferred Education/Experience

Nationally certified Medical/Healthcare Interpreter preferred.
