The Poss Lab in the Duke University Department of Cell Biology seeks a temporary Research Scholar with a strong background in fin regeneration and scale regeneration in zebrafish. For information about the lab and the PI, please visit: https://www.cellbio.duke.edu/kenneth-d-poss
Principal responsibilities for this position include the following:
Design and perform experiments successfully in the field of tissue regeneration, aimed at both understanding the biology of generation and developing tools as needed for discovery research.
Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests; perform experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes; compile, analyze, document and draw conclusions from experimental results. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments. Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Determine and set up instruments, material and apparatus and operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests. Obtain, prepare, mount, and stain tissue for microscopic examination. Develop charts and graphs for scientific publications. Specific to the department’s focus on zebrafish regeneration the ideal candidate will:
• Analyze bioinformatic data to discover novel enhancers.
• Clone DNA constructs for zebrafish expression.
• Optimize the creation of transgenic zebrafish lines.
• Perform surgeries on embryonic and adult zebrafish fins to assess regeneration.
• Capture images using compound and fluorescent microscopy.
- Recent PhD with a strong background in cellular biology preferred.
