Scope of Job:
Manages the day to day operation of the assigned tutorial center, including all staffing needs and tutors students.


Description of Duties:
• Responsible to management of assigned temporary staff, including supervision, hiring, scheduling, and evaluation.
• Tutors individuals or small groups and identifies and develops learning skills.
• Conducts trainings for part-time staff on an established schedule.
• Coordinates daily center procedures and materials for student use.
• Conducts orientations and workshops to advertise center to campus community, and other entities.
• Creates or selects tutorial center materials for employee and student use.
• Meets with faculty and staff members to advertise tutorial center services.
• Designs brochures and print materials to advertise center in physical and digital environments.
• Prepares departmental reports for director and faculty.
• Opens and closes assigned tutorial center.
• Attends departmental and university-wide meetings.
• Coordinates university community outreach activities related to concentration area and orientations in collaboration with other staff members and faculty members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned temporary support staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university related to the assigned tutorial center.

Preferred Education:
None.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
One (1) year of experience working with academically underprepared students or performing tasks related to the duties stated.


Preferred Experience:
Experience in teaching and supervision.


Equipment:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.


Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office environment.


Other:
May be required to work night and/ or weekends. Some travel might be required. May manage and/or supervise staff, labs, programs, or activities on multiple locations. Organizational abilities to manage diverse and simultaneous projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to generate and develop learning material.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
